Certified EAST facilitator in conjunction with the Arkansas Department of Education 

Served in the United States Air Force as an instructor in Parachutes, Oxygen Systems, and Crash Survival.

Steve Cardin

Steve became the Plant Manager of Baxter Healthcare at Mountain Home in April 2006 Prior to moving to Mountain Home, he was the Plant Manager of Baxter Healthcare, Irvine, CA since August 2000

Steve received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Military Academy, West Point

He received his MBA from the University of CA, Irvine

Steve served in the United States Army 1986 - 1992 as an Infantry Officer

Comments: "FIRST is an inspirational, unique, and important program that really can make a positive difference in the lives of our children as they gain experience that will directly influence their future. At Baxter Healthcare, Mountain Home, we know that our involvement and support of FIRST is vital to our community and to our children. I am pleased to be a part of this year's First Lego League tournament and look forward to a rewarding and challenging day."

 

Neil Chandler

Retired partner, Deloitte & Touche, after a 30 year Certified Public Accounting career in Springfield, IL.
Among several community activities, served as president of Springfield, IL Chamber of Commerce, Convention and Tourism Commission, and Governor's appointed chairman of Capital City Planning Commission.
B.S. from Bradley University, Peoria, IL.
Served in the USAF, held reserve commission as Captain.
Resident of Mountain Home for over 20 years.
Activities now include golf, quartet and church choir singing, golf, writing, golf, and acting.
Comments: "I look forward to again participate in the LEGO League Tournament. It is a challenge and a joy."

 

Ryan Croom

Graduated from MHHS in 2007

Participated as Team Leader for the “Stealth Bomber” FLL Team from 1999-2002.

Member and Lead Programmer for the “Bomb Squad” FRC Team from 2005-2007

Student at Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Missouri-Rolla),

studying Computer Engineering.

Alexander W. Dunlap
DVM, MD

Dr. Dunlap graduated 1984 from the University of Arkansas with his (BS) Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and a BSA in Animal Science.
He earned his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University in 1989, and in 1996 he received his doctorate in Medicine from the University of Tennessee.
Between 1991-Present, Dr. Dunlap has supported nine NASA space flights as a Veterinarian and Scientist
In 1996, Dr. Dunlap was selected as an Alternate Payload Specialist (Astronaut) for Space Shuttle Flight STS-90/Neurolab, a research mission that investigated the effects of microgravity on the brain and nervous system.
Currently, Dr. Dunlap serves both as Chief Veterinarian for NASA and as an emergency room physician at St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro, AR.

 

Clark Fletcher

Born in Mountain Home, Arkansas in 1951.
Graduated Mountain Home High School in 1969.
Graduated Arkansas Tech University in 1973, BS in Geology, minor in Math.

Graduated University of Tennessee in 1975, MS Geology, emphasis on Geochemistry.
Worked 1975-1998 in the coal mining industry holding numerous positions, including responsibility for properties, exploration, development and environmental affairs.
Also served as an instructor at the University of Kentucky - Madisonville Community College, Madisonville, KY, teaching classes in Geology and Mineral Management.
Served on the Board of Directors of the Western Kentucky Coal Association.
Appointed to the Kentucky Biodiversity Task Force, and Kentucky Water Quality Review Committee.
Presently is retained as a coal consultant by the Bank of America, in Nashville, TN.
Currently serving as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Baxter Regional Medical Center in Baxter County, Arkansas.
He and his wife of 28 years, Janice, have two children; a son who is a mechanical engineer and a daughter who is in pharmacy school.

 

Thomas Goates

Shauna Hopper

Graduated from Evening Shade High School in 1994.

Graduated of the Physical Therapy Assistant Program at the University of Central AR 1998.

B.S.  in Management 2003, from John Brown University

Work in Mtn. Home performing Physical Therapy from 1998-2003 in nursing home, home health, public school and preschools.

Director of Child and Youth Pediatric Day Clinic 2002-2006

Attends Twin Lakes Baptist and coaches Upward Basketball programs

Currently works as an agent for Farm Bureau Insurance Companies in Mtn. Home

Comments: Me and my husband of 10 years, Jerry Dean Hopper have lived in Mt. Home our entire marriage and have 2 daughters Ally(8), who is singing the national anthem, and Maggy-Claire (2). I enjoy sporting events, spending time with friends and family, working, and watching my girls have fun.

 

Roger Horton P.E.

Director of Engineering, Baxter Healthcare Corp., Mountain Home, AR.

B. S. Mechanical Engineering, 1977, from Valparaiso Univ., in Indiana.

Completed Aviation Officer Candidate School training at Naval Aviation Schools Command, NAS Pensacola, FL.   Commissioned as Ensign, USNR.

Professional Engineer, licensed in North Carolina and Arkansas.

30 year member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and a Certified Energy Manager through the Association of Energy Engineers.

One of the founding members of the Baxter Bomb Squad, mentoring since 1996. 

Coach for the ’98-99 Lego Maniacs FLL team, an 11-year veteran of the AR State Lego League Tournament, and a FIRST volunteer for seven FRC Regional and National Competitions.  

Design team leader, and one of 5 national finalists for the Woody Flowers Award in 2000, the year the Baxter Bomb Squad won the FRC Chairman’s Award.

Youth Soccer Coach and Referee since 1982, and a member of the Twin Lakes Soccer Association since 1994.

 

 

Mark A. Johnson

B.S. mechanical engineering degree from the University of Kansas (1995).

Conducted design work in the medical field

Worked in finite element analysis for 12 years on products that range from space station flywheels to plastic zip-ties.

Presently works with high pressure bolt tensioning equipment for the petrochemical industry.

 

 

Dr. Stephen L. Johnson

 

Professor of Industrial Engineering, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville for 25 years teaching and conducting research in ergonomics, quality control and design of experiments.

Professor in the Occupational and Environmental Health program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo

Masters in Engineering Psychology from the University of Illinois.

Prior to joining the U of A he was at General Motors Institute (now known as Kettering Institute) in Flint Michigan for five years and was a Principal Engineer at Calspan Corporation (now known as Veridian

Corporation) in Buffalo, NY for five years.

His research and development experience has included managing the development of the training program for the US Air Force B-1 aircrew, conducting automobile interior design studies for Hyundai and Kia Motors in Korea, and providing occupational ergonomics consulting services for over 50 Fortune 500 companies.

A registered engineering and a member of the Board of Directors for the national organization that certifies professional ergonomists (BCPE).

Hobbies include flying remote control aircraft, amateur radio and digital photography.

 

Dr. Michael Langevin

Dr. Langevin has practiced in Mountain Home since 1979.

He received his B.S. in Zoology from Arkansas State University in 1975 and attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN for his doctorate.

He is a member of numerous professional organizations and is an avid scuba diver.

Dr. Langevin has raised two children was active in soccer as a coach and referee for recreational as well as the state high school level. He was instrumental in the institution of the women's high school team in Mountain Home.

Currently Dr. Langevin is a volunteer at the Free Christian Clinic seeing patients in the new Ocular Pathology section of the clinic.

Comments: "The appreciation of science and its everyday application in ones life cannot be over estimated. I am very happy to serve and make this a possibility in a young adults life."

 

Donna Meyer

Donna is currently employed at Baxter Healthcare as Human Resources Director

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Biola University and a Master of Arts in Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School.

Donna is Certified PHR (Professional Human Resources)

Member of national Society of Human Resource Managers.

Member Twin Lakes Human Resources Organization

2007 graduate of Leadership Mountain Home.

Member of Workforce Investment Board for Central Arkansas.

Comments: I think Lego League is a wonderful program to grow and develop our youth in the scientific and math arenas. It is amazing to watch them problem solve and compete with their whole hearts in this competition. What a wonderful experience!

 

Meredith Novak

Arkansas native, graduated from Little Rock McClellan High School in 1980

Owner of the Shred Squad, a commercial paper shredding company that provides employment and fundraising opportunities for the Bomb Squad Students

Science and Technology Group board member and Bomb Squad mentor since 2002

Coach of the 2005 and 2006 Arkansas FLL Champion team, the FIRSTfruits of East Side Baptist Church

Married to the brilliant and stunningly handsome John Novak, FIRST mentor extraordinaire and longsuffering husband and father

I have three children who have been on three different FIRST teams that have made it to the Championship event.  This speaks less to the excellence of my kids (though they are, of course) than it does to the talent and dedication of our FIRST volunteers.”

Member of the Huskie Brigade, FIRST team #65 from Pontiac Northern High School; he has been heavily involved in FIRST since 1997.
Ken was the recipient of FIRST's 1999 Woodie Flowers Award, for excellence in communication in the art and science of engineering and design.
Has been a student competitor, volunteer, and judge in other engineering competitions such as the Society of Automotive Engineers Mini-Baja Vehicle competition and Formula SAE competition

Currently employed at Wal-Mart Home Office working with recruiting for the Wal-Mart Legal Department.

Will be attending University of Arkansas in the fall to obtain a Master's Degree in Higher Education Leadership.
